How to produce durable cultural events?
Some easy tips and hints can boost the durability of your cultural production. Choose durable materials and avoid resources that can’t be recycled or that are overly polluting. Use for example:
the guide for sustainable procurement of the federal government
Keep in mind the recycling and reuse of materials and architectures from the designing phase. Use second hand materials yourself. Limit unnecessary transport and be creative in the search for solutions.
To avoid problems concerning intellectual property rights, be sure to obtain the complete rights of all designed objects. Clear agreements with the designers and manufacturers on the legal and practical reusability (f.i. property rights) make good friends.

What do I put in my contracts and tenders?
Therefore we strongly advise you to copy the text below into tenders and contracts concerning the design and build of your cultural productions:
- The client acquires the full (intellectual) property of the object and is entitled to reuse or sell the object after the event. (f.i. through Kringloopepxo)
- Use recycled or recyclable materials as much as possible. Preferably recycled materials, because only here it is guaranteed that the recycling process has happened.
- Try to keep the used materials as pure as possible to facilitate the future recycling process. When a material is highly contaminated with other products it is unlikely to be recycled.
- Keep in mind the redundancy phase from the beginning of the design: don’t mix to many materials, design an object that is easy to take apart and not needlessly heavy. Plastics that are hard to separate through dismantling, have to be compatible to be classified as recyclable.
- Pursue an intelligent design that is easy to (de)construct and is not excessively big. Prefer f.i. ribs above the use of thicker material. Of course objects shouldn’t be constructed overly light to avoid loss of strength, life span and reliability.
- Design architectural parts as modular and universal as possible without restricting the artistic freedom of the designer/client. A universal design prolongs the life span and reusability of an object. Because of the modularity in the design one can still give a personal touch.
- Optimize the volume of transport by designing objects that are easy to dismantle and take up minimal transport space.
